Congratulations on writing your story! You've done the hard part, but the work isn't over quite yet. Before you approach an agent or publish your manuscript, you need an editor to help polish your words and make them shine in a creative, clear, and consistent manner. That's where I come in.
As an experienced, educated, and reliable editor of fiction and creative nonfiction, I will work with you to see your story through to fruition. Whether you're an established author in need of a copy editor or proofreader, or a first-time writer requiring a more hands-on approach with structural or line editing, I can help.
I'm an editor with over 20 years in the world of publishing and communications. Based in Toronto, Canada, after exciting professional stints in Los Angeles, California, and London, England, I am comfortable editing to Canadian, US, or UK spelling and style.
As an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), I have qualified for the institute's highest level, and I am bound by the CIEP's Code of Practice to ensure editorial excellence. I'm also the recipient of the Marsh Jeanneret Memorial Award for excellence in editing from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and a former columnist for a national weekly. My writing background and my editing experience make me a diplomatic editor who is at ease with writers.
From developmentally editing a Cold War-era memoir to copy-editing a collection of essays written by Nobel Prize-winning economists to proofreading a YA book about a Korean boy's struggle to cope with loss, I love the variety of my work! From self-help books to historical fiction, from a series of whodunnit mysteries to a collection of short stories and plays, I have worked with authors from around the world on hundreds of books.
I am particularly adept at working with new authors who might require multiple stages of editing. With fiction authors, I help strengthen their characters, plot, point of view, and timelines. With nonfiction writers, I help polish and present their ideas in a clear and consistent way (plain language, if requested). And with all my clients, I help bring out the best in their writing.
I am also a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally, a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world.
Please send me an email at kellylambediting@gmail.com if you have any editing questions.
