I am an editor with over 20 years in the world of publishing and communications. Based in Toronto, Canada, after exciting professional stints in Los Angeles, California, and London, England, I am comfortable editing to US, UK or Canadian spelling and style.
I am an experienced, educated and reliable substantive editor and copy editor, a confident writer and rewriter, as well as a thorough researcher, manuscript evaluator and proofreader. I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), in the UK, the recipient of Ryerson University’s Marsh Jeanneret Memorial Award in 2008 for excellence in editing and a former columnist for a national weekly. My writing background coupled with my editing experience makes me a diplomatic editor who is at ease with writers.
I am also a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally, a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world.
From developmentally editing a Cold War-era memoir to copy-editing a collection of essays written by Nobel Prize-winning economists to proofreading a picture book about a lonely turtle, I love the variety of my work! From self-help books to historical fiction, from a series of whodunnit mysteries to a collection of short stories and plays, I have worked with authors from around the world on hundreds of books, journals and reports.
I am particularly adept at working with new authors who might require multiple stages of editing. With fiction authors, I help strengthen their characters, plots, point of view and timelines. With nonfiction writers, I help polish and present their ideas in a clear and consistent way (plain language, if requested). And with all, I help bring out the best in their writing.
